🏃‍♀️ New Year, New Goals: Start Running in 2025! 🏃‍♂️

The New Year is a perfect time to set fresh goals, and what better way to kickstart your health journey than with running? It’s simple, cost-effective, and a great way to boost both physical and mental health. 


If you're new to running, don’t worry! Here are five tips to help you hit the ground running—literally:

1️⃣ Start Small and Build Gradually

You don’t need to sprint on day one. 

Start with walks and gradually introduce short running intervals. What I usually do when I take a long break is: run for 30 seconds, walk for 2 minutes, and repeat. Over time, I extend my running intervals and reduce walking breaks. Ahhh and don't forget strength training--I must confess I need to get better at it. 

2️⃣ Invest in Proper Gear (but no need to spend a lot of money)

Good running shoes are a must to prevent injuries and ensure comfort. Visit a specialty store to find a pair that suits your gait and needs. Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing also makes a difference, especially if you’re running outdoors.

3️⃣ Set Realistic Goals

Choose a goal that motivates you, like completing a 5K by spring or running three times a week. Use apps or journals to track progress—it’s incredibly satisfying to see how far you’ve come!

4️⃣ Listen to Your Body

Don’t ignore discomfort. It’s normal to feel tired, but sharp pain is a signal to stop and rest. Incorporate rest days into your routine and cross-train with activities like yoga or swimming to prevent burnout.

5️⃣ Make It Enjoyable

Running doesn’t have to be a chore. Explore scenic routes, listen to music (but make sure you are safe. Careful with roads/cars, etc.), podcasts, or audiobooks, and even run with a friend or a local running group. Enjoy the journey, not just the destination.

✨ Bonus Tip: Celebrate milestones! Whether it’s your first uninterrupted mile or your first 5K, acknowledging your achievements keeps you motivated.
